കേരള നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറി ഒരു നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ ചരിത്രം പേറുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്. ലൈബ്രറിയുടെ ശതാബ്ദിയാഘോഷം നടക്കുന്ന വേളയാണിപ്പോള്‍. നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറിയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള ചരിത്രം നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കെല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും അറിയാം. അമൂല്യമായ നിരവധി ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളുള്ള ലൈബ്രറിയാണ് നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറി. നിയമസഭാ അംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കു മാത്രമായുണ്ടായിരുന്ന അംഗത്വം ഇപ്പോള്‍ പൊതുജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കു കൂടി നല്കുന്നുവെന്നുള്ള ഒരു പ്രത്യേകത കൂടിയുണ്ട്. ഈ നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പുസ്തകോത്സവം ഇപ്പോള്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുകയാണ്. 2023 ജനുവരി 9 മുതല്‍ ജനുവരി 15 വരെയാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകോത്സവം സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. നമുക്കറിയാം, അറിവാണ് നമ്മുടെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സമ്പത്ത് എന്നുള്ളത്. അക്ഷരം അഗ്നിയാണ്, അഗ്നി വെളിച്ചമാണ്, വെളിച്ചം ഊര്‍ജ്ജമാണ്, ഊര്‍ജ്ജം ശക്തിയാണ്. അപ്പോള്‍ തീര്‍ച്ചയായിട്ടും അറിവാണ് നമുക്കേറ്റവും ആവശ്യമായിട്ടുള്ളത്. പക്ഷെ ഇന്ന് നാം കാണുന്ന ഒരു പ്രത്യേകത ഇന്നത്തെ യുവതലമുറ ലഹരിയ്ക്കും ഇന്റര്‍നെറ്റിനും അടിമയായി മാറികൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അതിനെതിരായി ശക്തമായ ബോധവല്ക്കരണം നമുക്കാവശ്യമുണ്ട്. അതിനു തീര്‍ച്ചയായും വായന നമുക്ക് പ്രത്യേകമായ അനുഭൂതി നല്കും. അതുകൊണ്ട് നിയമസഭാംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമായുണ്ടായിരുന്ന അംഗത്വം പൊതുജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും അതോടൊപ്പം വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ക്കും യുവാക്കള്‍ക്കും കൂടി നല്കിക്കൊണ്ട് നിയമസഭ ഒരു പുതിയ ചരിത്രം കുറിയ്ക്കുകയാണ്. അത് തീര്‍ച്ചയായും നമ്മുടെ ബോധത്തെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ ഔന്നത്യത്തോടുകൂടി കാണാന്‍ നമ്മെ സഹായിക്കും. ഇന്ന് നമ്മുടെ യുവതലമുറ തീര്‍ച്ചയായും ഒരു പുതിയ യുഗത്തിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നു എന്നുള്ളതുകൊണ്ട് അവര്‍ക്ക് ഏറ്റവും പ്രചോദനമായി മാറാന്‍ നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറിയ്ക്ക് കഴിയും. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഈ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പുസ്തകോത്സവം ഒരു വലിയ ആഘോഷമാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നതിനാണ് നമ്മള്‍ പരിശ്രമിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. നൂറില്‍പരം പ്രസാധകര്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്ന ഈ പുസ്തകോത്സവം എന്തുകൊണ്ടും പ്രത്യേകത നിറഞ്ഞ ഒന്നാണ്. ഈ പുസ്തകോത്സവത്തില്‍ വിവിധങ്ങളായിട്ടുള്ള സെമിനാറുകള്‍, സിംബോസിയങ്ങള്‍, സാഹിത്യകാരന്‍മാരുമായിട്ടുള്ള സംവാദങ്ങള്‍ ഒക്കെ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതെല്ലാം നമുക്ക് പുതിയ അറിവുനല്കാനും, നമ്മുടെ ബൗദ്ധികമായിട്ടുള്ള ബോധത്തെ വളര്‍ത്തിയെടുക്കാനും സഹായിക്കും എന്നുള്ള കാര്യത്തില്‍ എനിക്ക് യാതൊരു സംശയവുമില്ല. നമ്മുടെ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളേയും ചിന്തകളേയും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളേയും യാഥാര്‍ത്ഥ്യമാക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് നമുക്ക് ആത്മസംതൃപ്തിയുണ്ടാകുന്നത്. അത്തരം ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളും ചിന്തകളും ഉയര്‍ന്നുവരണമെങ്കില്‍ നമുക്ക് അറിവുണ്ടാകണം. അറിവുണ്ടാകണമെങ്കില്‍ തീര്‍ച്ചയായും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒന്നാണ് വായന. ആ വായനയില്ലെങ്കില്‍ നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സ് ശൂന്യമാണ്. ആ ശൂന്യമായ മനസ്സിനെ അറിവിന്റെ ഉത്തുംഗശൃംഗങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരാന്‍ കഴിയുന്ന ഒന്നായി മാറ്റിയെടുക്കാന്‍ കഴിയണമെങ്കില്‍ നമുക്ക് പരന്ന വായന ഉണ്ടാകണം. അതിനേറ്റവും പ്രചോദനമായിട്ടുള്ള ഒന്നാണ് നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറി. നിരവധി ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളാണ് ഇവിടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. അമൂല്യമായിട്ടുള്ള അത്തരം ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങള്‍ വായിക്കുക എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തില്‍ നമുക്കേറ്റവും ഉയര്‍ന്ന തലങ്ങളില്‍ എത്തിച്ചേരാന്‍ കഴിയുമെന്നാണ് ഞാന്‍ കരുതുന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് അതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറിയിപ്പോള്‍, നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറിയിപ്പോള്‍ ശതാബ്ദിയാഘോഷം നടത്തുന്ന കാലയളവാണ്. ആ ശതാബ്ദി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന വേളയില്‍ നിരവധി പരിപാടികളാണ് നിയമസഭാ ലൈബ്രറി ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. അതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകോത്സവവും സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഈ പുസ്തകോത്സവം വമ്പിച്ച വിജയമാക്കാന്‍ എല്ലാവരുടേയും നല്ല പങ്കാളിത്തം ഉണ്ടാകണമെന്ന് ഞാന്‍ അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിക്കുന്നു. ആ പങ്കാളിത്തമാണ് ഇതിന്റെ വിജയം. ഒരുപാട് ഒരുപാട് പുതിയ എഴുത്തുകാരെ പരിചയപ്പെടാന്‍, അതുപോലെത്തന്നെ സാമൂഹിക – സാംസ്കാരിക രംഗത്തുള്ള ആളുകളുമായി നേരിട്ട് സംവദിക്കാനും കഴിയുന്ന അപൂര്‍മായിട്ടുള്ള അവസരം എല്ലാവരും ഉപയോഗിക്കണമെന്നുകൂടി ഞാന്‍ അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിക്കുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ഈ പുസ്തകോത്സവം വമ്പിച്ച വിജയമാക്കാന്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍ കൂടി അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിക്കുന്നു.

The Kerala Legislative Assembly Library has a history of over a century. The library is celebrating its centenary. You all know the history regarding the Legislative Library. The Legislative Library is a library which has a great collection of precious books. Since this Centenary celebration, the membership of the library, which was limited to members of the Legislative Assembly, is now open to the general public. As a part of Centenary celebration an International Book Festival is being organized from January 09 to January 15, 2023. As we know, knowledge is our greatest wealth. Even a syllable has a fire in it. Fire is light, light is energy and energy is power. And so we need that power. Definitely, knowledge is what we need most. But one thing we see today is that today's young generation is becoming addicted to drugs and internet. We need strong awareness against it. Reading will certainly give us a special feeling. Therefore, the Legislative Assembly is writing a new history by giving membership to the general public, as well as to students and youth, which was only given to the members of the Legislative Assembly. It will help us to deliberately look at our own consciousness. Our young generation are definitely going through a new era. We hope, Assembly Library will inspire them. So we are working hard to make this International Book Festival a great event. This book festival will be something special as more than a hundred publishers will be participating. Various seminars, symposiums and debates with literary figures have been organized in this book festival. I have no doubt that all of it will help us to gain new knowledge and develop our intellectual consciousness. We feel self-satisfaction when we make our desires, thoughts and dreams come true. For such substantial desires and thoughts, there should be inner light of knowledge. For knowledge, Reading is a must. Without that reading our mind is empty. If we want to transform that empty mind into one that can take us to the peaks of knowledge, we must have broad reading. I think we can reach the heights in our life if we read such precious books. So it is a great step by the Legislative Library in its Centenary, to open to the public and to conduct such an eventful International Book Festival. There will be several programmes and cultural events also. I request you all, an active participation to make this book festival a grand success. Your participation and presence is what makes it successful event.
